A man was killed in a two-vehicle collision at White Road and Gion Avenue in San Jose about 4:20 p.m. Monday, April 13, 2020, according to police.

SAN JOSE – Authorities are investigating a fatal traffic collision in San Jose’s Alum Rock neighborhood.

The two-vehicle crash was reported at North White Road and Gion Avenue about 4:20 p.m. Monday, said San Jose police Officer Gina Tepoorten.

Tepoorten said an initial investigation revealed that a black 2017 Nissan Rogue was traveling southbound on White and attempting to turn left onto Gion when it was hit by a green 2002 Volkswagen Passat traveling southbound in the northbound lane of White.

The impact caused the Volkswagen to roll over and collide with several unoccupied parked vehicles, Tepoorten said.

Tepoorten said the driver and only occupant of the Volkswagen was pronounced dead at the scene. The Santa Clara County Medical Examiner-Coroner’s Office will release his identity once it has been confirmed and his next of kin is notified.

The driver of the Nissan remained at the scene and cooperated with the investigation, Tepoorten said.

The death marks San Jose’s 15th fatal traffic collision of 2020. That’s three more than had been recorded at this point last year.

Anyone with information about the crash can contact San Jose police Detective Troy Sirmons at 408-277-4654.
