These extraordinary times require bold leadership. Elected/community leaders must right past wrongs and build a future more equitable than ever before.

Mayor Sam Liccardo and Matt Hammer nailed it in their oped titled “Our most vulnerable students need learning, internet now” (Opinion section, Mercurynews.com, April 24).

The global epicenter of the tech world is here in Silicon Valley. Zoom (a platform for video conferencing and remote learning) has its global headquarters in downtown San Jose.

As pointed out by the San Jose mayor and Mr. Hammer, 15,824 San Jose students have no internet connectivity at home and 19,512 do not have access to a tablet or computer. This indicates that our elected and community leaders (I count myself as one) have not worked hard enough to right this wrong.

I urge us to collaborate to address a post-pandemic San Jose where no child is left behind with technology. Who will own the plan and its funding? Silicon Valley, do we have this?
